Blackpool are set to secure the permanent signing of goalkeeper Jak Alnwick on a pre-contract agreement from Rangers, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

Alnwick is currently on a season-long loan with Blackpool from Ibrox, and has so far made 24 appearances in all competitions for the club, keeping seven clean sheets.

The Seasiders had apparently been keen to make Alnwick's move to the club permanent this month, but those plans have been ended after the goalkeeper suffered a broken arm last months, which looks set to keep him out for much of the remainder of the season.

According to the latest reports however, it seems that is unlikely to prevent Alnwick from securing a longer-term deal at Bloomfield Road, with the 26-year-old said to have entered talks over a pre-contract agreement with Blackpool, which will see his move to the club become permanent when his contract with Rangers expires at the end of this season.

Having joined Rangers from Port Vale back in the summer of 2017, Alnwick has endured a difficult time at Ibrox, making just 11 appearances in all competitions for the club, and spending the whole of last season out on loan with Scunthorpe United.

Blackpool currently find themselves 15th in the League One standings, seven points adrift of the play-off places, having not won any of their last eight games in all competitions.

The Verdict

This looks to be a decent move for Blackpool.

Alnwick has certainly been impressive for the Seasiders when fit this season, so securing his future at the club on a longer-term basis ought to be a significant boost for them going forward.

Indeed, when you look at the drop in form they have suffered recently, which has somewhat coincided with Alnwick's injury, it certainly appears as though he can be a useful asset for them in the years to come.

That being said, given the lack of game time Alnwick enjoyed, and the number of other options they currently have between the posts, I don't think this update will be too much of a concern for Rangers.
