Blackburn will need to invest in their squad if they want to ensure that they stay in the division.

Rovers finished second behind Wigan Athletic to achieve promotion and go straight back up to the Championship at the first time of asking. They will take heart from the fact that all three promoted teams were able to stay up this season with two finishing in the top half.

Tony Mowbray should be wary, though, because there are a number of loan signings in his side, especially in forward areas, who will need to be replaced. Players such as Adam Armstrong are unlikely to be at the club next season, so their contributions will have to be replaced with new personnel.

Blackburn have a good squad especially for a League One side, but they need to use it as a platform to build from rather than just relying on that.

Here are three players they should sign in the summer...

Dasilva is one of the large amount of Chelsea loanees, and he spent this season on loan at League One rivals Charlton Athletic, so Blackburn will have seen him first-hand. He played well with 38 appearances as well as two assists, but he was unable to help the Addicks get past Shrewsbury in the League One play-off semi-finals.

The next step in his career is likely to be a loan spell with a Championship club, so Blackburn should take advantage of that because he could provide Derrick Williams with competition for the left-back/ left wing-back role depending on how Mowbray sets the team up.

Another cheap signing would be bringing in Callum Connolly on loan. He was on loan at Ipswich this season and made a total of 34 appearances even though he is only 20-years-old. This is likely to be harder than Dasilva because Everton are much more likely to promote him up to their squad.

He would be worth the effort though because he can play as either a defensive midfielder or a centre-back, so he is a talented versatile option. There is also the added bonus that he is used to this level, so he would be an excellent short-term solution as they navigate their way through the first season back in the Championship.

Maddison would be hard to get due to the interest he has garnered from Championship sides, but Blackburn can guarantee him a first-team place which some of the other teams will struggle to do. A significant fee would be required, but he could be their key signing for this summer transfer window with loanees like the ones mentioned above used to supplement this.

He scored 8 goals and assisted 18 in 41 league appearances for Peterborough this season as he formed a strong understanding with the prolific Jack Marriott, so he is more than ready for the Championship.

Maddison would be the ideal wide threat to complement Danny Graham and Bradley Dack, so it would make their attack multi-dimensional which is useful when breaking down opposition defences.
