Following a decent 15th-placed finish on their return to the Championship last season, many at Blackburn Rovers will be hoping they can build on that in the coming campaign, and the work towards that has already begun.

Having spent a week at a pre-season training camp in Austria, the club have since returned to the United Kingdom and got their preparations for next season well and truly underway with a 2-1 friendly win over National League side Barrow on Saturday.

It could also be a busy summer in terms of transfers for the club as they look to put together a squad capable of competing for a top-half spot at the very least.

Stewart Downing and Bradley Johnson have joined from Championship rivals Middlesbrough and Derby respectively, while the return of former loanee Sam Gallagher from Southampton appears to be imminent.

As competitive football nears its return, we take a look at what some of the Rovers squad have been up to during pre-season so far.

Bradley Dack

Rovers' talisman enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in English football's second-tier last season, scoring 18 goals in all competitions to finish as the club's top scorer for the second straight year.

Keeping hold of Dack could therefore be crucial to Rovers' hopes of pushing on next season, and the club's fans will be pleased to see that so far there have been very few rumours linking him with a move away from Ewood Park.

As well his duties on the pitch, Dack's popularity means that there are plenty of other things he is required to get involved with, such as the launch of the club's new kit, something which the midfielder seemed to rather enjoy, judging by this recent Instagram post.

Charlie Mulgrew

While he may have been given extra time off following his involvement with the Scottish national side at the end of last season, Mulgrew has still been in action, well sort of.

The Rovers captain recently posted a video of himself involved in a parent's race at his children's school sports day, with the 33-year-old finishing second, something which may not have gone down all that well given it was former Blackburn and current Preston attacker Paul Gallagher who beat him to top spot.

The defender has yet to reveal if the spikes he bought for the following day's sprint race were successful, which may not be a promising sign for Mulgrew.

Ryan Nyambe

While his other teammates have been preparing for the coming campaign, Nyambe's season has only just finished.

Having accepted an international call up from his native Namibia for the first time, Nyambe spent much of the early part of the summer away on Africa Cup of Nations duty with the Brave Warriors, and took to Instagram to speak of his pride at making his competitive debut for his country in their 1-0 defeat to Morocco.

Ultimately, Nyambe and his international teammates would go on to lose their next two games to South Africa and Ivory Coast, eliminating them at the Group Stage of the tournament.

Harry Chapman

Having impressed during an injury-hit loan spell at Ewood Park during Rovers' League One promotion campaign in the 17/18 season, Chapman made his long-awaited permanent return to the club at the end of the most recent January transfer window.

Having made just two substitute appearances since his return, this could be a big season for the young winger as he looks to stake a claim for a more regular place in the Rovers' lineup next season, and it seems he is confident of doing that.

Taking to Instagram during the club's pre-season trip to Austria, Chapman appeared to hint at a growing connection with striker Danny Graham, a partnership with last season's Player of the Year that would prove hugely popular with the club's fans.
