Blackburn Rovers are reportedly set to win the race for Tottenham winger Dilan Markanday – beating out the likes of  Nottingham Forest, West Bromwich Albion, Celtic, and Rangers.

FLW exclusively revealed back in November that Bournemouth, Forest, Stoke City, and Blackburn Rovers clubs had made contact with Spurs over the 20-year-old, who has now entered the final six months of his current contract.

Celtic, Rangers, QPR, and West Brom were also said to be battling it out for the winger's signature but it appears they're all set to miss out.

As per Sky Sports transfer centre (14/01, 09:38), Blackburn are set to win the race for Markanday and are now close to agreeing a deal with the Premier League club.

It is understood that Spurs have offered the young attacker a new contract but that he is keen to play regular first-team football away from the club, something that Rovers can offer him.

Markanday has been in stunning form for the north London outfit's U23s this term – scoring 12 times and providing seven assists in 17 appearances in 2021/22.

He was handed his senior debut in the UEFA Conference League earlier this season but it seems that's not been enough to convince him to stay put.

The Verdict

This looks like a real coup for Blackburn.

Markanday is a really bright talent and it seems the Ewood Park outfit are set to win the race for him.

Things can change quickly in the January window but Sky Sports is a reliable source and it seems a deal is now close.

Rovers has proven a fantastic stepping stone for young attackers in recent years and that may well have convinced the 20-year-old.
