Blackburn Rovers winger Dilan Markanday has revealed that he is starting to ramp up his road to recovery from a serious hamstring injury that he suffered earlier this year.

Signed by Rovers on a permanent deal from Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window, Markanday would have been hoping to play a key role in the club's push for a top-six finish in the Championship.

However, the 20-year-old suffered an issue with his hamstring in his first appearance for Blackburn as his side slumped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Hull City.

Markanday is believed to be in with an outside chance of featuring in the play-offs in May if Rovers seal a place in this competition.

In the absence of the former Spurs man, Blackburn have struggled with their consistency in the Championship.

Before sealing a 1-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers last weekend, Rovers only managed to accumulate five points from their previous six league fixtures.

Ahead of Blackburn's meeting with Fulham on Saturday, Markanday has shared a fitness update.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Markanday said: "The first couple of weeks I was down, but when you come back into the building and people are saying positive things that helps, and that's where I'm at.

"The first couple of weeks are always the hardest.

"The things you can do and the exercises you can do are limited.

"Five weeks post operation, we're starting to build things up, build up my core, it's about building week by week, making those marginal gains and hopefully [I] can ramp it up more soon."

The Verdict

This is a relatively encouraging update for Blackburn as Markanday is clearly making some progress after undergoing surgery on his hamstring.

Whilst it remains to be seen whether the winger will be fit enough to make his return to action this season, he could potentially take his game to new heights by playing regularly for Rovers in the 2022/23 campaign.

Before joining Rovers, Markanday illustrated his talent at Under-23 level for Tottenham as he provided 17 direct goal contributions in 14 Premier League 2 Division 1 appearances.

By replicating this abundance of creativity for Blackburn's senior side, Markanday could become a hit with the club's supporters.
