Blackburn Rovers are prepared to play the waiting game in their pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson this summer, as per a recent report by LancsLive.

The Ewood Park club are seemingly in the market for midfield reinforcements this summer after seeing several names leave the club in more recent times and it appears that the loan market could well be their port of call.

Clarkson is a player that they have been looking at for a good while now, but it seems that they are willing to be patient in their pursuit of the teenager as Liverpool look to formulate their own squad ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

The youngster has gradually made his way through the youth ranks at Anfield and is seen as a bright prospect for the future on Merseyside.

Originally born in Clitheroe, Clarkson has made three first team appearances to date and now appears set to be sent out on loan in order to continue his development.

The Verdict

It is completely understandable that Blackburn are once again going down the route of bringing in Premier league loanees, with this approach having proven successful for Tony Mowbray and co in the past.

They already have an existing relationship with Liverpool following the loan spell that Harvey Elliott had at Ewood Park last term and it appears that it could well play into their hands once more.

The club plays the brand of football that these Premier League clubs like to see and therefore they rarely hesitate when choosing to loan their best young talents out to the second tier.

Clarkson could be the next young Liverpool prospect to take the next step along his development pathway with Rovers, and I expect this deal to be one that goes through as Blackburn prepare to action their approach.
