Blackburn Rovers completed their first signing of the January transfer window earlier this week, with Jarrad Branthwaite joining on loan from Everton.

With three centre backs out through injury, the arrival of the 18-year-old from Goodison Park on a temporary basis was certainly needed.

However, it does seem as though Tony Mowbray's side might not be done there in the current transfer window - either in terms of incomings and outgoings - judging by recent reports and comments.

Here, we've taken a look at some of the big transfer stories to emerge from Ewood Park over the past few weeks.

Another centre back targeted

Blackburn may have got their man with Branthwaite, but with three centre backs out through injury, they are still short on numbers in that position.

As a result, it seems as though the Everton defender may not be the player coming into strengthen Rovers' options at the heart of their defence this month.

Speaking after the securing a deal for Branthwaite, Mowbray told The Lancashire Telegraph that there is a chance the club will sign another centre back in January, with the club apparently working hard behind the scenes in an attempt to do that.

Harry Pickering stance revealed

One player who it seems will not be joining Rovers this month, is Harry Pickering.

It was reported earlier in the week that Blackburn had made a bid for the Crewe left-back, although it was later suggested that issues surrounding add-ons had seen the Championship club pull out of negotiations.

Indeed, Mowbray has now shot down those suggestions completely, dismissing the prospect of a move for Pickering this month, pointing out he already has two left-back options at Ewood Park in Barry Douglas and Amari'i Bell.

Did these 14 players cost Blackburn more or less than £1million?

Tyler Magloire decision to be made

One player whose future at Blackburn is seemingly still up in the air, is Tyler Magloire.

The centre back has spent the last few months on loan at Hartlepool, making ten appearances for the National League side, and has now returned to Rovers.

Hartlepool are keen to bring Magloire back for the second half of the campaign, with Rovers currently said to be weighing up their options for the 22-year-old with regards to another potential loan move, something which could be influenced by their own injury problems in central defence.

Midfielder agrees professional deal

Blackburn have completed one signing other than Branthwaite this week, with midfielder Joe Nolan signing a deal with the club.

Nolan has been on trial with Rovers recently following his release from Preston, and scored in a 5-3 win for the club's Under 23s away at Derby.

Now it seems as though the midfielder has done enough to earn himself a contract at Ewood Park, after it was announced on Friday that the 18-year-old has signed a professional contract with Rovers until the summer of 2022.
