Nottingham Forest are negotiating a deal to sign Andre Ayew that will impact Lewis O’Brien’s potential move to Blackburn Rovers.

According to Rob Dorsett, the Premier League club will only be able to sign the forward if O’Brien’s move does go through.

It has been previously reported that Blackburn will face a wait on the confirmation of their move for O’Brien from the EFL.

Rovers had sealed an agreement with the Reds for the midfielder, holding off competition from the likes of West Brom and Sheffield United to secure a loan move for the remainder of the season.

The deal is set to include a £10 million obligation to buy clause in the scenario where Blackburn earns promotion to the Premier League.

However, if the move is to be scrapped then O’Brien will block Ayew’s arrival at the City Ground due to the club hitting their limit on their 25-man squad, which is due to be decided by 3pm today.

This puts even more pressure on the deal for O’Brien to make the switch back to the Championship, with both clubs seemingly eager to get the deal over the line.

The Verdict

This is a messy situation in which the EFL needs to act quickly on making a decision as O’Brien’s immediate future needs to be resolved.

Forest could still exclude O’Brien from their Premier League squad to sign Ayew, but if the Blackburn move collapses that would leave the 24-year old in exile.

Time is running out for the Premier League squads to be confirmed, putting an emphasis on the need for a quick outcome in this issue.

O’Brien would be an exciting arrival at Ewood Park, so it would come as a blow if this deal does not go through.
