Blackburn Rovers are yet to make a signing in this transfer window so far, with most of the club’s transfer focus being dedicated to potential outgoings.
The Lancashire side have already seen the likes of Charlie Mulgrew, Stewart Downing, Corry Evans, Lewis Holtby and Amari’i Bell leave Ewood Park at the end of their contracts this summer – some of whom they will need to replace as they approach the 2021/22 campaign.
Forwards Adam Armstrong and Ben Brereton are also likely to attract interest throughout the next month and a half after becoming the stars of the show for Tony Mowbray, along with Harvey Elliot up front.
20 questions about some of Blackburn Rovers’ biggest ever moments in their history – Can you score full marks?
Speaking of Elliot, there were talks of him returning to the Championship side – but let’s take a look at more recent developments to have happened in Lancashire.
Here are some of the top stories from the past few days.
Gray swap deal rebuffed
According to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, newly-promoted Watford and Blackburn engaged in discussions about a possible swap deal between Adam Armstrong and Andre Gray.
30-year-old Gray has been a regular for the Hornets in 2017 but only scored five goals last season, presenting the forward as a potentially unattractive offer to Tony Mowbray.
This possible swap deal was rejected by Blackburn as they would prefer a cash-only transfer for Armstrong, although Watford’s Premier League rivals Southampton are yet to come in with a second bid after seeing their first rejected.
West Ham United, Fulham, Newcastle United, Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion have also expressed an interest in the 24-year-old, so expect rumours surrounding Armstrong to heat up further between now and the end of August.
Mpanzu signs new Luton deal
Any hope of seeing Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu at Ewood Park has been diminished after the 28-year-old changed his mind and decided to sign a new deal at Luton Town on Monday.
Mowbray’s side and fellow Championship outfit Middlesbrough were both linked with a move for the midfielder, along with Turkish top tier club Hatayspor who were said to have opened talks with the Luton midfielder last week.
Back in May, Luton announced they had offered Mpanzu fresh terms ahead of the expiry of his current deal this summer but after officially becoming a free agent at the start of the month, it looked more and more likely he would move on from Kenilworth Road.
However, Nathan Jones’ side finished 10th last season and seem to be a club on the rise, potentially persuading the 28-year-old to put pen to paper on a new contract.
The length of this deal remains undisclosed.
Blackburn retract Curtis interest
As per The News, Rovers have decided not to follow up on their interest in Portsmouth winger Ronan Curtis, who has publicly stated he wants a move to the Championship this summer.
Cardiff City are also said to have cooled their interest in the 25-year-old and with Derby County and Reading who were both previously monitoring the Irishman currently under transfer embargoes, Curtis faces another season of third-tier football.
According to the same outlet, the winger has been made available by Danny Cowley for £2m but may have to reduce that price tag further if they want to get him out the door before the transfer window closes.
Curtis signed a new deal back in February last year to keep him at Fratton Park until 2023, something he might now be regretting as he angles for a move away from the south coast.
And after recording ten goals and seven assists in the league last term, he obviously feels he’s ready to make the step up to the second tier. Keep an eye on this one over the next month or so.
