Blackburn Rovers are continuing to look to bolster their squad as they approach the new season, following their automatic promotion from League One.

Already having acquired midfield talent in the likes of Joe Rothwell and Jacob Davenport this summer, Tony Mowbray’s side will be turning their attention to their back line.

Despite their relegation to the third tier of English football, Burton Albion had a few stand out performers from what was a dire season for Nigel Clough’s side. One of which, was Kyle McFadzean.

Having only joined Burton two years ago, on what was then a reported record transfer fee, McFadzean has racked up 73 league appearances for the Brewers and was vital throughout their entire campaign.

The 31-year-old might not be the big name signing that the Blackburn Rovers faithful may be expecting following their second placed finish last season, but McFadzean’s experience and wisdom at the back will provide stability to their defence, and is likely to be enough to keep them in the Championship.

The veteran defender has one year left on his contact at the Pirelli Stadium, but following his side’s relegation, the opportunity of Championship football once more may be too appealing to turn down.

Despite his age, Tony Mowbray’s side have already been linked with a move for the Kyle McFadzean, following his impressive performances throughout last campaign.

McFadzean has played across multiple tiers of English football, from down in the Conference North right up to the Championship, where he could be back again next season, if Blackburn decide to take the risk on the aged defender.

Not only the talent, but also the ambition, of the current Blackburn squad would make it an appealing place for any player to go to. With Kyle McFadzean set for League One football, I wonder how long it may be before we see the old-timer defender in the blue and white of the Rovers.
