Blackburn Rovers are set to bolster their attacking midfield options by adding Kasey Palmer on a season-long loan from Chelsea, according to Sky Sports News.

Palmer is set to move to Ewood Park despite a number of other clubs being in the chase for his services.

Derby were said to have first refusal after he joined them on loan last year and with former Chelsea legend Frank Lampard now as their boss.

But after signing Mason Mount from the Blues, as well as Brentford's Florian Jozefzoon and Liverpool's Harry Wilson, Lampard does not need any more attacking midfielders.

Palmer was also a target for a number of other clubs, including Norwich City and Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.

But Blackburn are set to win the race for the 21-year-old, who has had loan spells with Huddersfield Town and Derby.

The Verdict

This is a fantastic move and just what Blackburn need.

Palmer's creativity, goal threat and ability to carve out chances for his team-mates make him a superb player at Championship level and he will slot in nicely.

And he knows how to get a team into the play-offs, having done so in the last two years, so could he be part of a dark horse run with Rovers?
