Alex Baptiste faces an uncertain future as Blackburn Rovers are ready to battle with Bolton Wanderers for the defender, reports Burden Aces.
The 29-year-old, who joined Bolton on a free transfer from Blackpool in July 2013, spent this season on loan at Blackburn and has said he wanted to stay at Ewood Park.
Baptiste has a year left on his current deal at the Macron Stadium and will link up with the rest of the Bolton squad once pre-season training starts next month.
But Rovers manager Gary Bowyer wants the defender to return to Ewood Park and is ready to make a move sooner rather than later.
“Alex has been fantastic for us and given different circumstances we would love to keep him,” Bowyer told the Lancashire Telegraph.
“But we’ll monitor that situation very carefully in the summer.”
Despite Bowyer’s interest in Baptiste, Bolton boss Neil Lennon has yet to see the defender is action and will watch him to pre-season before making a decision.
“I haven’t had chance to work with Alex yet,” Lennon told The Bolton News. “He certainly will be here pre-season because he is our player.
“I want to have a good look at him because I have been impressed with what I’ve seen of him when I’ve watched Blackburn play this season. I think he could do a job for us but we won’t really know until we take a closer look.”
