Blackburn Rovers register interest in signing ex-Manchester United player

Blackburn Rovers are said to be looking at potentially signing former Manchester United goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara according to journalist Alan Nixon.

O’Hara spent the 2019/20 season on loan with League One side Burton Albion, and made 42 appearances in total for the club before returning to Old Trafford when the League One season was concluded early due to off-the-field events.

The 24-year-old’s time with Manchester United was called to a halt though, as he was released by the club, and it appears as though Blackburn face competition to land his signature in the summer transfer window.

Rovers are currently challenging for a top-six finish in the Championship, and will be eager to put together a positive run of results from now until the end of the season.

Christian Walton is currently Tony Mowbray’s first-choice goalkeeper between the posts, but he is set to return to Brighton and Hove Albion when his loan spell reaches a conclusion.

Walton’s performances have come into question recently, having made some costly errors that have lost Blackburn vitals points in the race to finish in the play-off places.

Rovers return to action in midweek when they take on relegation-threatened Barnsley at Oakwell, in what is certain to be a tricky test for the Lancashire-based side.

The Verdict:

He could be a useful option to have in the Blackburn squad.

Rovers are going to need to add a goalkeeper to their squad in the near future, with Christian Walton’s loan spell at Ewood Park set to reach a conclusion at the end of the season.

O’Hara still has age on his side, and now could be the right time for him to be given an opportunity by a Championship club, after catching the eye with some impressive performances with Burton Albion on loan in the 2019/20 campaign.

It would be a smart bit of business for Tony Mowbray’s side if they landed his signature.
