Blackburn Rovers will retain the service of Christian Walton and Tosin Adarabioyo until the conclusion of the Championship season.

The pair are on loan from the Premier League, with Brighton and Hove Albion and Manchester City trusting Rovers with the development of Walton and Adarabioyo.

Of course, the Championship season has been at a standstill for two months now, with a ball not kicked in the division since the first weekend in March.

Players on loan across the Championship will see their temporary deals expire in the coming weeks and months, and if the season can resume, it is likely that it’ll spill well into the summer.

However, a report in the Lancashire Telegraph has squashed fears that Blackburn could lose both Walton and Adarabioyo, stating that Rovers are likely going to retain their services after financial agreements with the parent-clubs.

Walton, 24, has been ever-present in the Championship this season, with the goalkeeper featuring in every fixture. For Adarabioyo, the defender has shown more consistency at Ewood Park than he did on loan at West Brom last season, making 27 appearances and scoring two goals for Tony Mowbray’s side.

When the season can resume, Blackburn will start in 10th and look to close in on the play-off places.

The Verdict

This is a big boost for Mowbray should the season resume eventually.

Walton is his first-choice goalkeeper, whilst Adarabioyo has proved to be a very reliable option in the defence.

Securing their immediate future helps Blackburn prepare for the season’s resume, with no curveballs likely to be heading their way in terms of players’ futures.
