Blackburn Rovers are making a move to sign Barnsley right-back Callum Brittain, journalist Alan Nixon has reported via Patreon.

It has been a quiet summer transfer window for Blackburn so far, with the club yet to make a first-team signing following the appointment of Jon Dahl Tomasson as head coach.

Now though, it appears that is something that the club are keen to change, as they look to put together a squad capable of competing in the Championship next season.

According to this latest update, Blackburn are hopeful of making Brittain their first signing of the summer, in a deal that could be worth up to £1.5million.

Brittain joined Barnsley from MK Dons back in the summer of 2020, and has since gone on to make 82 appearances in all competitions for the Tykes.

However, following Barnsley's relegation from the Championship at the end of last season, it is thought that the 24-year-old is now keen to move away from Oakwell.

As things stand, there is just a year remaining on Brittain's current contract with Barnsley, although the club do have the option to extend that deal by a further 12 months.

The Verdict

This would surely be a very good signing for Blackburn if they can manage to pull it off.

Rovers are badly in need of a right-back for next season, with Ryan Nyambe set to move on following the expiration of his contract at Ewood Park.

In Brittain, the club would not only be getting a player capable of filling that role, but one with the attacking instincts required for the style of play that Tomasson looks set to employ at Ewood Park.

With the 24-year-old having also shown he is capable of competing in the Championship with his performances for Barnsley, he would be a more than reliable option for Blackburn at this level.

Given the concern that is growing about the lack of signings at Ewood Park as well, getting this completed would be a big relief for those associated with the club, so you feel Rovers should be doing all they can to get this done as soon as possible.
