Sky Bet Championship side Blackburn Rovers are exploring the option of signing Derby County goalkeeper Scott Carson in the summer, according to reports from the Sun.

Tony Mowbray's men are believed to be in the market for another goalkeeper, in order to provide competition to regular shot-stopper Jayson Leutwiler and David Raya.

Burnley's Joe Hart has been a name linked with a move to Ewood Park, having failed to make an appearance for the Clarets since Boxing Day, making just 21 appearances and falling behind Tom Heaton in the pecking order at Turf Moor.

But, if his wages turn out to be a problem, Mowbray is also looking at the optionof signing Derby's Scott Carson, who has endured a mixed season at Pride Park.

The 33-year old was a regular for Frank Lampard's men in the first-half of the campaign, but has since lost his place in the team to Kelle Roos.

The experienced shot-stopper has made over 170 appearances for Derby, but with just one year remaining on his current deal in the East Midlands, he could well be set to leave in the summer.

The Verdict

I think Carson could be a shrewd addition at Ewood Park for Rovers.

He would add some real experience in between the sticks, and is still a very good goalkeeper despite approaching the latter stages of his playing career.

I see this as a risk-free signing, and if they could sign him on a short-term deal, it could be a masterstroke.
