Blackburn Rovers are said to be "drawing up" a contract offer for goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin, whose future at Sunderland remains uncertain.

The 32-year-old has been a key player for the Black Cats since joining from Hearts last season, making 90 appearances for the Wearside club.

After establishing himself as an influential player for Sunderland over the past couple of seasons, McLaughlin's future at the Stadium of Light looks uncertain.

The Scot is set to be out of contract at the end of the month, and there has been no further update since the club offered him a new deal last week.

According to the Daily Mail, Blackburn are still keen on a move for McLaughlin, and are reportedly "drawing up" an offer for the goalkeeper who could be available to sign on a free transfer in a few weeks.

Tony Mowbray will be eager to strengthen his goalkeeping options, with Brighton and Hove Albion loanee Christian Walton set to return to the AMEX Stadium at the end of the season.

Blackburn sit eighth in the Championship table, only one point off the play-offs after defeating Bristol City by three goals to one at the weekend.

The Verdict

I think that McLaughlin would be a really good signing for Blackburn, especially on a free transfer.

He is a solid shot-stopper who has kept Sunderland in so many games over the past couple of seasons, and he deserves to play higher than League One.

It seems inevitable that if he is to leave Sunderland, his next destination will be Blackburn, 100%.
