Blackburn Rovers defender Scott Wharton completed a season-long loan to Lincoln City yesterday, just minutes after featuring for Tony Mowbray's side in a game against the Imps.

Wharton lined up in blue and white as Blackburn ran out 1-0 winners, but by 5pm his loan move had been announced.

Wharton is no stranger to Sincil Bank, having spent a period on loan there last season.

The 20-year old is a product of the Rovers youth system, but he has just two league appearances to his name for his parent club. He's been out on loan a couple of times, playing nine times for Cambridge United in 2016/17.

Last season he made a January deadline-day with to the Imps where he helped push them to a play off place in League Two. He appeared 14 times in total, 13 of which were starts, scoring twice in the process.

He missed out on the Imps Football League Trophy final, suspend after being sent off inside half and hour for Blackburn as they hosted Rochdale in the group stages.

The left-sided centre back becomes Lincoln's sixth signing of the summer so far.

The Verdict

This wasn't met with positivity around Ewood Park, many of their fans feel Wharton should have been around their Championship squad this season, such is his quality.

Wharton is sure to play a key part for Lincoln last season after quickly establishing himself in the ultimately unsuccessful play-off side.
