Blackburn Rovers are planning a loan swoop for Everton midfielder Darron Gibson, according to The Mirror

Darron Gibson

The Republic of Ireland international has fallen down the pecking order at Goodison Park and has made just six appearances so far this season, with just four of those coming in the Premier League.

His chance of first-team football under Roberto Martinez are limited, and the Spaniard is preparing to the let the former Manchester United man go out on loan to get some game time.

The news has alerted Blackburn Rovers as manager Paul Lambert is keen to add to his squad, and wants to take Gibson on loan for the rest of the season.

Rovers don't have much money to spend but they are now allowed to sign players, after the transfer embargo that was put in place at the start of the season has now been lifted.

The Lancashire side are struggling in the Championship this season sitting in 18th place, just five points away from the relegation places.

Lambert's side, who have not won any of their last six matches, face League Two Newport County in the FA Cup third round on Monday before facing Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Saturday.
