Blackburn Rovers have given former Aston Villa and Blackpool striker Nathan Delfouneso an extended trial, according to the Daily Mail.

Delfouneso is on trial at Blackburn

The 24-year-old frontman has recently been on trial with Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles after his release from Blackpool at the end of last season.

However, Delfouneso has been on trial at the north-west club over the past week and featured on Saturday in their 2-0 victory over League One side, Oldham Athletic. Delfouneso came on as a second half substitute and made an immediate impact as he scored in the friendly.

The Birmingham-born striker was once considered one of England's brightest prospects, with over 50 appearances for England U16's, U17's, U19's and U21's. Unfortunately, to date, Nathan has failed to live up to the high standards he set so early on in his career. Therefore after loan spells at Burnley, Leicester, Blackpool and Coventry he was released by Premier League side Aston Villa in the summer of 2014.

After two previous spells at Bloomfield Road, Delfouneso signed a one-year deal for the Seasiders in July 2014. However, after only managing to net on three occasions in nearly 40 appearances, Nathan was released in May 2015.

Blackburn Rovers manager, Gary Bowyer told the Lancashire Telegraph:"He only came in and met the lads on Saturday morning, he's been away on trial somewhere else and he came in and I thought he did ever so well."

"Nathan's going to spend a couple of weeks with us and we'll have a closer look at him and go from there, but he's done himself no harm whatsoever with that goal."
