Blackburn Rovers are rivalling Birmingham City to the potential signing of Shrewsbury Town defender Aaron Pierre according to Football Insider.

The defender has made 37 appearances for the League One side this season, and has seemingly made a good impression in his time with the club to date.

Pierre signed for Shrewsbury Town back in the summer of 2019 after an impressive spell with Northampton Town, and his future remains 'up in the air' heading into the summer transfer window.

A move to Blackburn could be a tempting proposition for the 27-year-old, with Tony Mowbray's side well in contention to challenge for a top-six finish in the Championship this term.

Whilst a move to Birmingham could also tempt Pierre, although it seems as though the Blues will be fighting for their status as a Championship club in the final seven matches of this season after a dismal run of results since the turn of the New Year.

Shrewsbury finished 15th in the League One standings this season, after the majority of clubs in the third tier agreed to curtail this year's campaign on a PPG (points per game) basis after off-the-field events had previously called a halt to fixtures.

The Verdict:

This could be a smart signing for either club.

Blackburn could definitely benefit from signing another defender, with Tosin Adarabioyo set to return to Manchester City at the end of this year's campaign after a loan spell with the Lancashire-based side.

Pierre doesn't have any experience of playing at a higher level than League One though, which might be a slight concern for any potential suitors heading into the summer transfer window.

I think he'd be worth the punt for both Blackburn and Birmingham though, as he's a player that has really impressed me whilst with Shrewsbury Town.
