Blackburn Rovers are reportedly interested in signing Jerry Yates during the summer transfer window, according to Football Insider

Yates was in hugely impressive form for Blackpool in the 2020/21 season, and it appears as though those strong showings haven't gone unnoticed.

The forward netted 23 goals in 54 appearances for the Tangerines, as they won promotion back into the Championship, whilst under the management of Neil Critchley.

The newly-promoted side face a real battle to keep Yates at the club heading into the new league campaign though, with the 24-year-old previously attracting interest from Nottingham Forest.

But Blackburn Rovers have now entered the race to land his signature, as they could potentially be in the market to find a replacement for Adam Armstrong.

It has recently been reported that both Norwich City and Southampton are the frontrunners to sign Armstrong this summer, with the former Newcastle United man's good run of form in front of goal not going unnoticed in the 2020/21 season.

He scored 29 goals in 43 appearances for the Lancashire-based side, as they finished 15th in the Championship table.

Football Insider claim that Blackburn are looking to cash-in on Armstrong this summer if their valuation of £15million is met by any interested clubs, with Yates also being lined up as their top target to replace the 24-year-old.

The Verdict:

This is a smart move by Blackburn Rovers.

Yates really impressed me with Blackpool in the 2020/21 season, as they won promotion into the Championship, and I'm not surprised to hear that he's attracting interest from other clubs this summer.

Blackburn could be the ideal move for him as well, as it seems as though it's only a matter of time before Adam Armstrong is to depart Ewood Park ahead of the new league campaign.

He would leave a sizeable void in the Blackburn team, so it makes sense for Rovers to target a replacement for him beforehand, and that's exactly what they seem to be doing in pursuing a move for Yates.
