Blackburn Rovers have emerged as clear favourites to sign Frank Fielding from Bristol City this summer.

Tony Mowbray is preparing Blackburn for their return to the Sky Bet Championship, with Fielding emerging as a transfer target.

According to Alan Nixon, Rovers are leading the race to sign Fielding this summer.

The goalkeeper has been with Bristol City since the summer of 2013, making 174 appearances for the Robins.

Last season, the 30-year-old featured on 46 occasions across all competitions, with Lee Johnson preferring the goalkeeper as his first choice in the Championship.

Fielding made 43 league appearances, conceding 50 goals and managing to keep 14 clean sheets, as Bristol City finished 11th in the Championship table.

Blackburn are looking to bring Fielding in alongside David Raya.

Raya was Mowbray’s No.1 at Ewood Park last season, with the 22-year-old Spanish goalkeeper making 47 appearances across all competitions, including 45 in League One, as Blackburn secured an instant return to the Championship.

The impressive young goalkeeper conceded just 39 goals and managed to keep 17 clean sheets.

The Verdict

This could be a shrewd move for Blackburn to make ahead of their Championship return.

Raya is still inexperienced for a goalkeeper, whilst Fielding has been around for some time now.

Pairing the two together would give Mowbray’s side really good options and cover a key position ahead of Blackburn’s Championship return.

More business like this over the course of the summer will give Blackburn a good opportunity of pushing on.
