Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing goalkeeper Nikita Haitin, a report from Norwegian outlet Nettavisen has claimed.

Haitin is currently a free agent, after leaving Bodo/Glimt following the expiry of his contract at the end of last year.

The 27-year-old spent the last four years with the Norwegian club, making 121 appearances in all competitions.

During that time, he will also have worked with Blackburn's current Director of Football Gregg Broughton, who previously held a similar role with Bodo/Glimt.

Now it seems as though the pair could be set for a reunion at Ewood Park, with this latest update claiming that Blackburn are looking into a deal for the goalkeeper.

However, Rovers are not alone with their interest in the 27-year-old, with MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps also thought to be interested in Haitin.

Blackburn, who currently sit fifth in the Championship table, are yet to make a signing in the January transfer window.

The Verdict

This is an interesting one to consider for Rovers, whose options between the posts mean this is not a position they need to prioritise this month.

However, it is worth noting that Aynsley Pears, who has been limited to appearances in the cup competitions this season, has been touted for a loan move elsewhere this month.

Bringing Haitin in would ensure they have the cover to sanction such a deal, and the fact he is a free agent means they would not be investing too much on back-up, ensuring funds are available for more pressing issues.

With that in mind, it does seem that this could in fact turn out to be a sensible piece of business for Rovers, if they can get it over the line.
