According to the Sheffield Star, Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing James Hanson from Sheffield United this summer.

Blackburn have endured a difficult start to life in Sky Bet League One, and Tony Mowbray is looking to strengthen his squad over the next two weeks, before the close of the transfer window.

Rovers moved to bring Marcus Antonsson to Ewood Park last week, but despite the arrival of the Leeds United forward, Mowbray is targeting a deal to sign Hanson from Sheffield United.

The Blades are willing to let Hanson leave this summer, as Chris Wilder looks to increase his on transfer budget to strengthen his squad ahead of a long Championship season.

Hanson has found himself behind the likes of Billy Sharp, Ched Evans and Leon Clarke at Bramall Lane, and has been limited in his opportunities following the club’s promotion to the Championship.

The 29-year-old is attracting interest from the lower leagues, with both Mansfield Town and Scunthorpe United reportedly interested alongside Blackburn.

Hanson signed for the Blades back in January, ending a long association with Bradford City to make the move to South Yorkshire.

The striker scored one goals in 13 appearances for the Blades during the second-half of last season, helping them win the League One title and promotion.

The Verdict

Hanson does not look set to be handed many opportunities by Wilder in the Championship this season, with his future clearly lying away from Bramall Lane.

A move back to League One seems like the logical move for the striker – who has impressed in the lower leagues, particularly when he was at Bradford.

Blackburn will be hoping that if they can lure him to Ewood Park, Hanson can have a similar impact to the one he made at Bramall Lane last year, when the Blades were going in search of a Championship return.
