Blackburn Rovers are considering their options in order to win the race for exciting MK Dons midfielder Matt O'Riley, as per a report from The Sun.

Swansea City, Middlesbrough, Huddersfield Town, Bournemouth and Barnsley were credited with an interest in the 21-year-old late last month, according to Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (31/12, 15:16).

The central midfielder, who can operate as a more advanced option or even in a holding role, has chipped in with seven goals this term, contributing with four assists too.

O'Riley has been part of an exciting MK Dons team in League One this season, and at just 21 years of age, he is proving to have an incredibly high ceiling.

The Sun's report has revealed that Blackburn are struggling to meet the asking price and are instead considering a player swap, with no names yet to be mentioned.

The verdict

O'Riley has enjoyed an excellent start to this season, bringing creativity, intensity and maturity to MK Dons' midfield.

His technical ability, combined with his vision, makes him an exciting player in the final third, however, he also possesses the tenacity and tactical awareness to play an integral role when his team are out of possession.

Given his influence in the team, he is a player that MK Dons will be desperate to keep hold off, but ultimately, he has been a class above this season.

O'Riley is someone who could definitely shine at Championship level already, whilst he also has the ability and potential to grow into a top-flight player, should Rovers achieve promotion this term.
