Blackburn Rovers will reject any low offers for West Ham United target Ben Brereton Diaz in January but will consider bids worth "a very high amount", according to Jon Dahl Tomasson.

The Chile international has added 10 goals in 2022/23 to the 23 he scored for the Championship club last season but his days at Ewood Park could be numbered.

Brereton Diaz is out of contract in the summer and does not appear close to agreeing new terms with Rovers, which has drawn links to the Premier League ahead of the winter window.

West Ham are reportedly weighing up a bid as they look to give David Moyes more forward firepower but Tomasson has made it clear they will have to pay a significant fee to prize him away midway through the season.

Speaking to Lancashire Live, the Blackburn boss outlined the club's clear plan for Brereton Diaz in January.

He said: "When I speak with Ben, I think he very happy here at the moment.

"Of course, for him, it is maybe not the best choice for him to go to another club halfway through the season.

"It's not always the best choice but at the end of the day, it's about the opportunity and whether they come with a very high amount that we can't say no to. We don't know, nobody knows.

"If it's a low offer, we will say no immediately. You never know what will happen in football, I'd love for the lad to sign a contract and stay with me."

Tomasson added: "I think it's difficult to see whether it will go in that direction or not. I will say what I said in the summer, Ben is extremely professional, he is trying his best the whole time.

"We expect and demand that and that's the mindset that he wants to do well here and help the club. I don't know what will happen with him, you don't know, he probably doesn't know himself because it's a difficult question."

Brereton Diaz's next chance to add to his goal tally is likely to come on Saturday when Rovers face Norwich City at Carrow Road.

The Verdict

It seems West Ham or whoever else is interested will have to fork out a significant fee if they want to sign Brereton Diaz in January.

Tomasson has outlined Rovers' strong stance on the 23-year-old, which looks to have put an end to any interested parties' hopes of a bargain.

It's a risky game to play from a Blackburn perspective given he is set to become a free agent in the summer but they're in a promotion battle this term so you can understand why they want to be so firm.

Brereton Diaz's situation is certainly one to watch in January.
