Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has confirmed to LancsLive that the club are able to spend small fees on transfers this summer as they eye new additions.

Rovers have been exceptionally quiet during the current window, with only Leighton Clarkson arriving from Liverpool on loan so far as they seek to make in roads towards bringing in more new faces.

In addition to this, Blackburn have seen their top scorer from last season, Adam Armstrong depart for Premier League Southampton, which has in turn freed up some funds to address the delicate financial situation at Ewood Park.

Now Mowbray has provided an update on his side's transfer plans, as he stated the following recently to LancsLive:

"We have to understand there has been a pandemic and our owners have suffered financially.

"We're looking to just add some young players on loan and just add the odd one for small fees."

Mowbray has previously admitted that the club are looking to utilise all five of the loan spots within their squad, with the club said to be eyeing several youngsters who are at Premier League clubs.

Meanwhile Rovers registered their second win in three league matches last night thanks to goals from Daniel Ayala and Darragh Lenihan against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The Verdict

It has been one of the toughest summers that Tony Mowbray will have ever experienced and it'll be interesting to see how they come out of it at the end of the month.

Loan signings seem like their best bet at present and it would be no surprise at all if they fill all five of their available spots.

The addition of Clarkson to the midfield is a smart one but they really need to add some goals and attacking threat in the final third after Armstrong departed earlier this month.

If they can bring in a player who can hit double figures, they could yet be in line for a great season at Ewood Park moving forwards.
