Gary Bowyer has confirmed Blackburn Rovers have rejected a bid from Middlesbrough for star striker Jordan Rhodes.
Bowyer told the BBC: ”fortunately for myself and the rest of the lads, and of course our supporters, that bid has been rejected.”
Blackburn Rovers will be desperate to keep hold of Rhodes after the club have already sold the influential Tom Cairney and potent strike partner Rudy Gestede this summer.
These departures are certain to hit the club hard and with only two incoming players meaning it could prove to be a struggle for the club this season.
However, with bids now believed to be around £12 million coming in from Middlesbrough it could be difficult to keep hold of the Scottish striker with the club still in a transfer embargo.
Alternatively if Rovers were to let Rhodes go, finding a replacement would be difficult in their circumstances meaning they may have to hold firm in the negotiations.
Rhodes wanted to speak to the Teeside club after hearing reports of a large bid was made for his services but he is not allowed to do so until a bid is accepted – the striker has a deal at the club which expires in 2019 meaning there is less pressure on the club to sell.
Blackburn fans, what fee would you be willing to accept for Rhodes, if any? Middlesbrough fans, do you think your club should continue to go after Rhodes despite large bids already being rejected? Let us know in the comments below!
