Blackburn Rovers have today confirmed that midfielder Brad Lyons has moved to Scottish Premiership side St. Mirren until the end of the season.

Lyons, who signed a professional contract at Ewood Park just last week, moved to the Lancashire club on an initial loan from Coleraine in the summer before agreeing a permanent deal earlier this month.

St. Mirren are currently managed by Oran Kearney, someone who will know Lyons well from his time coming through the ranks at the Northern Irish club.

The 21-year-old has scored three goals in 13 appearances for Rovers' under-23 side during the first-half of the season but is yet to make his first-team debut.

Tony Mowbray's side currently sit in 14th place in the Championship table after their promotion from League One last season, six points behind Derby County who currently occupy the final play-off position.

This weekend sees Rovers welcome Ipswich Town to Ewood Park after their FA Cup third-round replay with Newcastle United tonight.

The verdict

This seems like the sensible thing to do from Mowbray.

Lyons has clearly impressed during his initial loan but is still far down the pecking order, so why deprive him of the chance to play first-team football?

Let him go to St. Mirren and prove himself further.
