Wigan came from 2-0 down to earn a point against Blackburn in a pivotal game last weekend.

Wigan's FA Cup run means that they a number of games in hand on the teams around them, so they have an advantage in that regard. However, they couldn't afford to lose this match because it would have extended the gap between the two sides to nine points.

The fact that they were 2-0 down away from home going into half-time and they came away with a draw makes this an even more impressive result.

This leaves the onus on them for the rest of the season because wins in their remaining games would guarantee promotion. Just winning their games in hand would leave them comfortably ahead.

Getting promoted is never as simple as that, but this draw gives them confidence while taking it away from Blackburn because they should have won this.

This is a huge psychological advantage to have while they also have an FA Cup quarter-final against Southampton to look forward to which encourages a feel good factor around the club.

This FA Cup run has been a huge boost for the team's confidence because of the victories it has produced against top quality opposition. Being able to hold their own against Manchester City will have certainly helped them when they were down at half-time against Blackburn.

It also means that the team has full confidence in Paul Cook, which means they are more likely to successfully transmit his ideas on to the pitch.

This was probably the toughest game remaining in the league, so the main issue for them now is complacency. Keeping up their run of form should see them promoted straight back up to the Championship at the first time of asking. This result indicates that they have the character and resolve to achieve this.
