Blackburn Rovers are preparing a fresh bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien, as reported by Alan Nixon via his Patreon.

The report states that Rovers are looking to benefit as Sheffield United and West Brom have thus far failed to make progress in their pursuits of the exciting midfielder.

The Premier League club are willing to sanction his departure but are looking for a club to agree a £10 million deal that will be paid in the summer.

O'Brien enjoyed a fine season in the Championship last time out as Huddersfield Town finished third in the second tier and were ultimately denied a spot in the top-flight because of Forest.

Impressing enough for the Reds to take a chance on the left-footed midfielder, he has since struggled for regular game time and has only managed 580 minutes of Premier League football.

The verdict

Of course, this would be an excellent addition at Blackburn but at £10 million, he represents a very expensive option for the Lancashire club to pursue at this stage.

That is not to say that a deal cannot be done and it will be interesting to see if they can pull this one off before the fast-approaching 11pm deadline.

O'Brien has proven to be top-quality in the second tier and would be one of the most eye-catching Championship deals of this January transfer window.

Not only is he technically gifted and productive in possession, but he is also extremely intelligent off the ball and possesses lots of energy when pressing opposing defences.
