Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has revealed that the club have been given permission to complete the signing of a player on loan.

The Championship side have yet to add to their squad in the current window, but the season-ending injury suffered by top scorer Bradley Dack means the club are now thought to be in the market for a new attacking option this month.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph about the state of play with regards to potential signings after his side's 5-0 thrashing of Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, Mowbray said: “I think we’ve got a confirmation we can make on a loan deal."

Discussing the possibility of more incomings this month, Mowbray continued: “I’m not sure we’re going to spend lots of money. The potential is there to spend a bit of money, but only on the right player.

“That’s what I’m saying to the owners, there aren’t many players you can bring in who are going to guarantee anything."

Although the Blackburn boss would not confirm the identity of the potential loan signing, it is thought that the player could be a right-sided attacker.

One player who has been linked with a loan move to Ewood Park this month who plays that position is Rangers winger Jordan Jones, who has made just 11 appearances in all competitions since moving to Ibrox from Kilmarnock in the most recent summer transfer window.

Blackburn are currently 11th in the Championship standings, three points off the play-offs following that emphatic win over the course of the weekend.

The Verdict

This is an encouraging sign for Rovers.

While Saturday's 5-0 thrashing of Sheffield Wednesday may have gone some way to easing concerns about their attacking options, you feel another addition in that part of the pitch could still be useful.

Dack's absence means they are still lacking some element of strength in depth up top, something which a new recruit, at least until the end of the season on loan, will help them to deal with.

It will be interesting to see who this player is, but having been made to wait through much of the window for a signing, there ought to now be a good deal of anticipation amongst the club's fanbase with this revelation that a deal is now close to completion.
