Blackburn Rovers will be heading into the Championship season as somewhat of an unknown package, having gained automatic promotion from League One last season.

Adam Armstrong, who spent the latter stages of last season on loan at the Riversiders, has been linked with a return to Ewood Park this summer, but with the season rapidly approaching, Tony Mowbray will need to step up their interest if they are to secure their man.

The 21-year-old scored nine goals in his 21 appearances under Mowbray last season, and helped Blackburn in their promotion to the Championship after finishing in second place.

The England Under-21 international is on the books at Premier League side Newcastle United, and has made 17 appearances for the Magpies in his four years at the club, but is unlikely to feature much this season.

We discuss whether Blackburn Rovers should be pushing for a deal to sign Adam Armstrong on loan this summer.

Jay Taylor

He certainly knows him from his time at Coventry and Blackburn.

Signing Armstrong on loan would be a shrewd move as he has not been as prolific under any other manager.

Blackburn will need plenty of fire power if they are to stay up this season, and signing Armstrong would aid their survival hopes.

Gary Hutchinson

Yes, but with caution. He didn't do it in the Championship with Barnsley or Bolton and pinning all their hopes on him might be a bit too ambitious.

That said they should get him in and see if his age is bringing an improvement in his ability to cope with better defenders.

Alfie Burns

He did so well last season, and if he’s available, Blackburn need him back on board.

His performances in League One last season were excellent, and they have given him the platform to progress at a higher level.

Chris Gallagher

I think so.
He knows the Newcastle player well and usually gets the best out of him. The side are lacking up top and a return to Ewood Park would make sense for all parties.
