Blackburn Rovers suffered the ignominy of falling to the third tier of English football for the first time in 37 years after a doomed campaign last season, and even a last day victory over Brentford was not enough to save them from the drop.

Anger has been directed towards the controversial Venky owners, with fans devastated that the Indian owners have led their beloved club to such a disappointing fall from grace.

Tony Mowbray will remain at the helm next season in a move which will give fans hope of an instant return to the second tier, and a summer of solid transfer activity will be necessary if Blackburn are to challenge in the competitive competition.

The middle of the park is one area in need of strengthening, with central midfielders Jason Lowe and Danny Guthrie departing Ewood Park this summer.

Mowbray needs an injection of young, hungry players into his squad if a promotion bid is to be launched, and the addition of Liverpool midfielder Cameron Brannagan should be a priority in the coming weeks.

The 21-year-old was on the verge of breaking into the first team before injuries halted his progress, and the youngster spent 12 games on loan with Fleetwood last season in a bid to regain fitness.

Another loan move would do the player the world of good, and impressing at a club of Blackburn’s stature would be sure to capture the attention of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
