In spite of a two month wobble just past the mid way point of the season that had one or two briefly looking over their shoulder, it has in the end been a job rather comfortably well done for Blackburn Rovers on their return to the Championship this season.

They comfortably achieved their target of staying in the league, and now one man in particular has earned his reward for another impressive individual campaign.

That's because it has been confirmed that Ryan Nyambe has accepted a call up to the Namibian national team for the first time, ahead of this summer's Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

It is news that many fans will feel is a just reward for the 21-year-old right back, whose recent improvement has been both noticeable and necessary.

Even during a promotion campaign that became ever more emphatic and convincing in League One last season, there were still question marks over Nyambe personally. There were times when you had no idea what he would do with the ball when it came to him, and neither did he.

With Rovers promotion to the Championship confirmed, the pressure was ramped up on Nyambe to perform back in the higher tier and avoid becoming a weak link for teams to exploit, and he has done so impressively.

This season he has looked more and more assured in possession, and his confidence to carry the ball forward too seems to have increased.

The days of feeling slightly nervous whenever it comes Nyambe's way are gone for Rovers fans, the opportunity to compete in a major international tournament that he has taken with Namibia feels like just reward for that.

In fairness, Namibia have tried to move for Nyambe before, but even his decision now to take up that call shows increased maturity on the part of the youngster.

To compete in an international tournament is an opportunity that many footballers - including several of his current Rovers teammates - may never have, and coming up against top tier international level footballers will be another big learning curve for Nyambe.

Having just extended his contract at Ewood Park until the summer of 2021, Rovers look set to be the ones to benefit from that experience for Nyambe.
