Blackburn Rovers have started preparing for their second season back in the Championship after securing a mid-table finish on their second-tier return.

Tony Mowbray's side gained promotion from League One last season, and have adapted well to life back in the Championship.

The Lancashire outfit have won an impressive four of their last five matches in the final run-in, meaning they will be targeting a higher finish next season.

It appears Rovers have already started assessing their summer transfer options and non-league striker Joe Malkin has become the latest player to attract their interest, according to HITC.

Malkin has been a consistent performer for Evo-Stik Premier Division side Nantwich Town this season, and he has reportedly been the subject of enquiries from across the English football pyramid.

The 20-year-old has scored 11 goals in 20 starts for Nantwich this term, and Blackburn are keen on bringing him in on a trial to assess his qualities ahead of a potential move.

If he impresses, Malkin could be signed on a permanent deal to compete with the likes of Danny Graham, Adam Armstrong, Ben Brereton and Joe Nuttall next season.

The Verdict

This could prove to be a very smart addition.

The amount of early interest in Malkin suggests he will be hot property this summer, so Rovers would do well to secure his signature.

It has been proven in recent years that non-league players are capable of making the jump up the pyramid so there is no reason why Malkin can't do the same, particularly at his young age.
