Blackburn are keen on securing a deal for highly-rated Newcastle United winger Adam Wilson when the transfer window opens.

The 18-year-old has impressed for the Magpies U23 side this season, scoring once and assisting twice from his seven appearances.

However, it's his all-round game that has impressed Rovers manager Tony Mowbray and according to Chronicle Live, the experienced boss will be keeping tabs on him ahead of a potential move.

The report also states that Mowbray has personally checked out Wilson last season as he looked to strengthen his squad.

Whether he would be able to tempt the north east side into selling Wilson remains to be seen.

Despite his lack of involvement in the first-team, Wilson is considered a bright talent on Tyneside and he signed his first contract with his boyhood club just a few months ago.

Therefore, a loan move might be Blackburn's best bet, although it's unclear whether that would suit the Lancashire side.

Either way, Mowbray will be looking to add to his squad to help maintain their positive start to the season, with his side currently 10th in the Championship.

The Verdict

Blackburn don't have a massive budget in comparison to their rivals so Mowbray has to be on the lookout for a few younger gems and he clearly rates Wilson.

The teenager is a very bright prospect and even if he wouldn't make an immediate impact, he has the potential to be a very good Championship player in the years to come.

However, Newcastle won't be keen on selling Wilson given he just signed a new deal so it will be interesting to see if anything comes from this.
