Blackburn Rovers have been handed a setback in their search for Tony Mowbray's replacement as Daniel Farke is reportedly not considering a return to Championship management right now.

Despite recent discussions with CEO Steve Waggott, Mowbray has insisted that he is still determined to leave Ewood Park when his contract expires this summer.

That leaves Rovers searching for his replacement and Farke, who won promotion to the Premier League twice with Norwich City, has been linked as an early contender.

According to Lancs Live, however, the German coach is not considering a return to Championship management at the moment.

Farke left his role at Russian club Krasnodar in March but it is understood that while he is not ruling out a return to the second tier at some point, his focus at the moment is on finding work in the Premier League or the Bundesliga.

The Verdict

Farke always looked an ambitious candidate to replace Mowbray but this update is a setback in their search as it appears to rule him out of the running.

With a number of key players out of contract, Blackburn cannot afford to wait around and an immediate appointment is surely needed, which means the German coach isn't a plausible option.

Given the job he did at Norwich, taking them to the Premier League twice in a three-year spell, he would've represented a phenomenal hire from Rovers.

As it is they'll have to turn their attention elsewhere and with the likes of QPR and perhaps soon Birmingham City searching for a new boss as well, they could face competition for any potential targets.
