Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has revealed that his side are facing yet more injury problems in defence, after explaining Amari'i Bell's absence from their 2-2 draw with Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Injuries to left-back Greg Cunningham and centre back Darragh Lenihan before the international break meant that Rovers were forced into two changes at the back for the Roses derby, but Bell, who had started the season on the left-hand side of defence prior to the arrival of Cunningham on-loan from Cardiff, was not one of those to come into the side.

Instead, it was Elliott Bennett who moved to left-back for the first time this season, with Ryan Nyambe coming in on the right of the back four, and Bell not named in the matchday squad.

Speaking about Bell's absence after the match, Mowbray was quoted by Lancashire Live as saying: "He's injured and he’s damaged his knee.

"You go through a process, the pain is there so you go and get scanned which gets assessed and then you get a time-scale.

"We’re at the beginning of that process really so all I know is that he’s not fit."

Discussing the impact Bell's absence had on his side for the clash with The Terriers, Mowbray continued: "That disrupted us today, along with Cunningham and Lenihan. "

"On top of that the likes of Grayson and Magloire are injured as well, but I thought we did alright today.

"We’ll take the point and move on."

On the pitch, Lewis Holtby's first goal for Blackburn and a Bradley Dack strike from the edge of the area saw Rovers come from behind to lead Huddersfield 2-1 at half time, before substitute Juninho Bacuna's strike just past the hour mark secured a point for Danny Cowley's side.

The Verdict

This is something Blackburn could really have done without.

Following those injuries to Lenihan and Cunningham, Rovers were already badly short on numbers in defence, so losing another is a big blow.

While Elliott Bennett stepped in in that position against Huddersfield, the club captain was not entirely convincing in that unfamiliar position, meaning Rovers will surely be keen to have Bell available again as soon as possible.

Given he will have seen this as an opportunity to enjoy something of a run in the side as he looks to earn a contract beyond the end of this season, when his current deal is set to expire, Bell is likely to feel the same.
