Blackburn Rovers could be set to make a move for Southampton strker Sam Gallagher this summer.

The striker, who has failed to make an impact for the Saints after spending three of the last four seasons out on loan, looks set to now leave St Mary's, with Alan Nixon reporting that Blackburn could make a permanent move for the 23-year-old.

Indeed, a move to Ewood Park might well appeal to Gallagher after he spent time with the Lancashire club on loan during the 2017/18 campaign, impressing manager Tony Mowbray with work-rate and overall forward player.

Gallagher is a regular in terms of being linked with moves in transfer windows thanks to his inability to get into the Southampton squad on a regular basis, and it appears the Saints have finally ran out of patience with the 23-year-old.

Gallagher has had spells with the likes of Birmingham City and MK Dons in the past but as yet has failed to knock in the goals which are expected of a striker at Championship level.

Rovers are keen on adding to their squad after a successful first season back in the second tier and Mowbray will no doubt see Gallagher as someone who can come straight in and slot into the squad at Ewood Park.

The Verdict

It's honestly about time Gallagher got a move away from Southampton and finally prove himself.

He has plenty of talent, but it's just not worked out for him as he might have hoped in the last few seasons.

A move to Blackburn might be perfect for him. A club he knows well and less pressure, he could well thrive.
