Blackburn are looking to beat Newcastle to the signature of goalkeeper Jon McCracken, according to Football Insider.

Hibernian are also said to be interested in the Norwich player, and the club could allow him to leave on a free to help him get his career up and running.

As yet, there is no report of a contract being made by Blackburn, but they are thought to be monitoring him despite already having three keepers contracted after renewing Jayson Leutwiler's deal last month.

Newcastle meanwhile are not short of keepers either, so McCracken has a tough decision on his hands if he wants to start games regularly.

Hibs could be his best bet, and it would mean a return to his native Scotland. The club's only current first-team keeper is Ofir Marciano, and he only made 23 appearances last season, meaning McCracken could come in and make that position his own next season.

The Verdict

It would be a surprise to see Norwich let him go for nothing. They signed him only last year and he must have something about him to attract interest from a Premier League club. It would be a risk on Norwich's part as he could go on to be worth a lot of money, and is surely worth keeping if only to learn from a great keeper like Tim Krul.

From McCracken's perspective, it would be difficult to ignore Newcastle's interest, but to further his career Blackburn or Hibs would surely be the better option. He would feature more regularly at those clubs and that is what he needs right now having never played a professional match.
