Blackburn Rovers are closing in on a transfer deal for Hertha Berlin right-back Deyovaisio Zeefuik, according to Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg.

The 23-year-old Dutchman is set to arrive on loan at Ewood Park for the rest of the season, with a clause in the deal allowing Rovers to turn it into a permanent move this summer if they wish for £2.9 million, per Bild.

Zeefuik's imminent arrival may spell the end for Ryan Nyambe as the academy graduate's contract wrangle with the club continues - his deal expires this summer and there's no sign of him as of now extending his time in Lancashire any further.

Having come through the youth system at Ajax, Zeefuik played six times for the Dutch giants before going on loan to, and signing permanently for FC Groningen.

Zeefuik made the switch to Hertha in the summer of 2020 and made 22 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, and has started a further seven times this season with four substitute outings to add to that.

The Verdict

This deal seems to have come a bit out of the blue but it appears that Tony Mowbray is being backed in the transfer market.

The Rovers boss did say he would be looking at loan deals and one seems to have been tied up relatively early in the window in the form of Zeefuik.

Zeefuik has pedigree having come through the famed Ajax system and with Bundesliga appearances to his name this season, it's a surprise that Blackburn are able to bring him in to be honest.

But their league standing will make them very attractive to players and with Nyambe's future uncertain, this looks to be a bit of a coup.
