Blackburn Rovers are set to sign Adam Armstrong after agreeing a fee with Newcastle United and personal terms with the player.

That's the latest according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, who claims that Rovers will pay an initial fee of £1.75m for Armstrong, which could rise to £3m.

As well as that, Downie states that personal terms have already been agreed with Armstrong, meaning a deal is imminent.

It would mean a return to Ewood Park for the 21-year-old who joined Rovers in January on a loan deal from his boyhood club.

And, he was a key figure in a strong second half of the season that saw Tony Mowbray's men finish second to secure an immediate return to the Championship.

In total, he played 21 league games, scoring nine goals and operated in various different forward positions.

He would be the latest attacking addition for the newly-promoted side, following the impressive capture of Kasey Palmer who joined on-loan from Chelsea last week.

The Verdict

This would be a good bit of business for Blackburn, as Armstrong is a player that knows the club, knows the manager and would bring something different to the attack.

As well as that, he is a younger player who is only going to improve, so it's a smart signing.

It appears a deal is very close and it is another coup for Rovers who have made some good moves in this market.
