Despite his Blackburn side winning four consecutive league games in a row, boss Tony Mowbray has stressed he will not overload his players at this early stage of the season.

The former Celtic manager told the club's official site: “It's not a question of if it is going alright just keep the same. There are so many things in the melting pot to consider.

Fortunately, the Blackburn manager has a very strong squad at his disposal, demonstrated by the fact Bradley Dack, Paul Downing, Peter Whittingham and Danny Graham were all on the bench last time out against Scunthorpe.

Since starting the season with consecutive defeats, Rovers have been terrific. They fought for a 1-0 win at Bradford City and haven't looked back since, displaying the quality many had predicted in pre-season.

Yet, Mowbray is wary of demanding too much from the players, in what is a gruelling league.

Footballers are human beings, they are fallible, they will break down, they will pick up injuries and knocks. They will get tired, they won't find the same energy and adrenalin levels.

With that in mind, changes could be made as AFC Wimbledon make the trip up north for Rovers next test as they look to maintain their impressive form.

The Verdict

Given the depth in Mowbray's squad, he is very wise to consider rotating even if it could harm momentum.

There's a long season ahead and keeping players fresh for as long as possible could be extremely beneficial as the season progresses.

The manager will know how each individual can cope with a heavy schedule and will make changes accordingly.
