Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has said that relegation is "unthinkable" but admits that it will become a reality unless the Lancashire based outfit can turn things around.

With just eight games remaining, Blackburn Rovers find themselves in the relegation zone, despite being unbeaten since Tony Mowbray took charge.

Since Owen Coyle was sacked, Blackburn are undefeated in seven matches but they have only managed two wins in that period.

They are just one point behind Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and Burton Albion as the relegation scrap hots up.

Mowbray says that relegation is an "unthinkable" concept but added that it's up to Blackburn to ensure that they pick up sufficient points in the final eight games to secure safety.

The former Coventry City manager spoke about Rovers' Premier League triumph and how it would be disastrous if they were to drop to the third tier.

Tony Mowbray said:

“It’s unthinkable really, but the reality is there in front of us and we have eight games to make sure we get enough points.

“I fall in to that category as a lover of football, I look at recent history of the club, it’s only just over 20 years (since Rovers won the Premier League) but it feels pretty recent to me."
