"It’s amazing to be back and it’s something that I’ve wanted to happen ever since I left the club after my loan spell," an excited Sam Gallagher told fans on iFollow Rovers.

"For the move to finally happen feels great. The whole feeling of the club, even walking around the training ground this morning, it’s almost as if I never left really."

The 23-year-old striker rejoined the North-West side earlier this week, but on a permanent four-year-deal, compared to the season-long loan in 2016-17.

He scored 15 goals in his first spell and now two years since leaving Ewood Park, he has returned and to challenge once more.

"He's a guy with great ambition, so that only breeds into the football club," he told the club's website while speaking of Mowbray. "Especially with the players in the squad that he wants to build as well."

These ambitions are likely to consist of achieving promotion. To reach this extraordinary goal, Rovers have also added two experienced players in Stuart Downing, 34, and Bradley Johnson, 32, on free transfers as they look to build on their 15th finish last year.

“We’re just trying to get a balance right with experienced players and the youth and exciting players that are coming through," Mowbray commented about his squad.

David Raya's £3m move to Brentford is the only noticeable departure so far and Blackburn are expected to sign a replacement. Rovers signed 19-year-old goalkeeper Joe Hilton, but Mowbray wants an experienced goalkeeper for the coming season.

"I think this team needs some experience behind it and a goalkeeper who has been there, seen it and done it and hopefully can help the defensive unit keep some more clean sheets,” said Mowbray.

He added: "It’s about seeing which one falls in to place. It’s more than one club we’re speaking to and we’ve got a few goalies who we’ve looked at that we quite like. There’s lot of options for us, we’re asking the questions and hopefully one will drop in soon.”

The Verdict

Gallagher is expected to relieve some pressure off of Danny Graham and Bradley Dack, who combined for 30 goals last season. As well as that, Johnson and Downing will bring the experience and talent needed to make Blackburn a greater threat.

However, depending on the quality of goalkeeper and other additions Rovers make, promotion will be a steep goal to accomplish. A mid-table finish would prove to be a great season; anything more would give the Rovers fans a season to potentially remember for years to come.
