Kyle Lafferty suffered a groin injury in Northern Ireland’s 1-0 win against Slovakia on Monday which, if serious, could rule him out for the remainder of the 2015/16 season, according to Irish Sunsport via the Birmingham Mail,
The news will surely come as a blow for Gary Rowett’s side, who signed Lafferty on an emergency loan deal from Norwich only last week, and with the loan window now closed, the club must rely on players from inside their ranks.
Although Lafferty has so far yet to make an appearance for the club, many fans considered him to be the player to provide them with extra firepower up front and lead their charge towards the play-offs.
Lafferty, who has scored 15 goals in 44 international appearances for his country, was signed by Norwich in the 2014 summer transfer window but failed to make an impression at Carrow Road.
He has failed to score in the league this season – although he did net once in the League Cup – and his contract expires in 2017.
Gary Rowett’s side currently sit in ninth place in the Sky Bet Championship, having accumulated 56 points from 37 league games this season.
