Birmingham City were still at risk of relegation going into the final day of the season but they managed to beat high-flying Fulham 3-1 at St Andrew's to confirm their place in next year's Championship season.

Garry Monk came in and was tasked with keeping them in the second tier following poor spells from Harry Redknapp and Steve Cotterill.

And having now completed what he was brought in to do, the former Swansea City, Leeds United and Middlesbrough manager will have his sights firmly set on a play-off push.

Such are the fine margins in the Championship that one year could be a relegation battle and the next a promotion-winning campaign.

The Blues are hoping for just that and Monk will be scouring the market for new additions to bring in this summer and improve their squad so that a play-off finish can be achieved.

Here are three players who would aid their play-off bid.

If Birmingham could somehow pull off a swoop for Bartley, it would be one of the best signings of the summer.

Swansea might want to keep the 26-year-old now they've been relegated and Leeds are after the dominant centre-back but he might fancy a return to Birmingham - where he previously spent time on loan - and a reunion with Monk.

In David Davis, Birmingham have the legs and in Maikel Kieftenbeld, they have the tenacity but another central midfielder is needed to improve the passing in that department.

A ball-playing midfielder like Dowell - who spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest from Everton - would be perfect as he showed in the first half of his loan spell that he is one of the best in the division when his confidence is high.

Birmingham should take a risk and hope that the 20-year-old can find his early season form rather than fade like he did in the second part of the season as he contributes with goals, assists, creativity and set-piece specialities.

Birmingham need a striker and Peterborough United's Marriott is the ideal shout.

The 23-year-old is very young and getting better with each game he plays but he has already proven his goal scoring prowess, netting 33 times for the League One side this season.
