Harry Redknapp’s Birmingham City are set to duel with Everton for the signature of Chamois Niortais starlet Junior Sambia, according to The Sun.
The 20-year-old began his youth career at Lyon back in 2003 before eventually ending up at the Ligue 2 outfit in 2013, where just a year later he made his senior debut for the club in a 1-0 defeat at Dijon on September 12.
And with 78 more appearances for the second tier side, as well as six goals and five assists in the league, Sambia is slowly but surely becoming an integral member of the Chamois Niortais side, and has thus attracted much interest from around England.
And recent reports suggest that Redknapp’s Birmingham are looking to battle with Premier League outfit Everton for the young midfielder this summer.
The former Tottenham and Portsmouth boss took over at St Andrew’s with just three games to go last season following the departure of Gianfranco Zola, and led the Midlands club to two wins from those three matches to narrowly avoid the drop.
And Redknapp has already turned his attentions to strengthening ahead of next season so they are not in the same position again, and with Craig Gardner already through the door on a permanent deal, he is hoping Sambia will follow suit.
Whether they can persuade the 20-year-old midfielder to sign for them ahead of Everton remains to be seen, but with greater playing opportunities undoubtedly laying at St Andrew’s, the Blues will likely be confident of securing a deal this summer.
